Chaga Mushrooms

Wild Harvested Chaga

We don't just harvest wild Canadian Chaga, we have been drinking Chaga Tea every day for our own health since 2006!

Chaga is a non-renewable wild resource, so why not buy your cured Chaga from the people who have many years of experience harvesting wild mushrooms and as professionals with over 30 years in the wild food industry, we certainly know how to harvest them responsibly and sustainability. And most importantly, we know how to cure the mushrooms and other wild foods properly. We do not use any kind of  heat source at all. Our (secret) methods of curing retains far more of the important nutrients that all wild foods & mushrooms have to offer.

We want to help protect this important natural resource by leaving the smaller breeders on the tree's and stop the over harvest. We try to teach other harvesters in our province and encourage those who harvest for us and others around the world as well to first learn basic tree biology, and learn to leave the smaller specimens to grow and to never harm the trees by not chiseling into the tree past the barkline so that the Chaga will grow back for as many as two more harvests if the tree doesn't die first! If these simple protective measures are taken, then perhaps the Chaga harvest will remain sustainable, hopefully for many more years to come!

It was in the summer of 2006, after returning home here to New Brunswick, that I was called to remember my young friend Andre's story and was in desperate need of this amazing Chaga Mushroom that he told us about at the campfire all those years ago

At the time, no one here in North America seemed to know anything about its medicinal properties or even that it existed, so I went on the internet of course, to find out what I could about this miracle mushroom. At that time, my search produced only one website that had any information about it at all, and that one and only website was based out of Russia. It is with humble gratitude that I thank the people at chagatrade.ru for the information you so freely shared with the world then and now! And unlike what everyone else has done since, I did not copy and paste their information onto my website as a marketing tool or to fool people into thinking I knew something that I didn't.

I was and still am just one of Mother Natures little garden helpers.

After reviewing what they had to say at Chaga Trade about the medicinal properties of this mushroom, I started harvesting it for myself  to see if it really did, or would work for my high blood pressure and high sugar levels due to type-two diabetes, not to mention a serious disease that I had lived with since 1984 .  What I can and will say is this-  my energy levels skyrocketed in the first week and after the first two months of drinking three glasses of Chaga Tea every day.  I no longer had high blood pressure and my sugar levels were under control; and have remained so, for over six years now with daily use.  (I don't miss having to prick my fingers 3 or 4 times a day either).

This is my experience with Chaga, and I make no other claims as to its medicinal uses, other than to say that it has dramatically improved the quality of my health and life and continues to do so.  I am not a doctor, nor a scientist and cannot comment on other health problems that I do not have.

Nor am I the Creator, nor the designer of this gift, but I am however one of Mother Nature's little gardeners and do respect her laws.

Think of Mother Nature with this in mind.....If we wound Her a little bit, She will go away (as we all do when wounded) to take the time She needs to heal, then She will come back and give us more in time. But if we wound Her beyond Her ability to heal and we cut too deeply then She will not heal and She will not give back what we have destroyed, and there will be nothing left for any of us!

It was in 1999, while we were buying Chanterelle mushrooms on the Queen Charlotte Islands, (located off the north coast of British Columbia, Canada). for a large mushroom company out of Richmond, B.C. I heard a story from a young fellow from Russia one night at our campfire , he was an exchange student here in Canada at the time, and was on the Island picking mushrooms for extra cash money during fall break. He came into our buying station that day and very excited about a mushroom he had found which he called Ling Zhi (a medicinal mushroom most favored in China & Japan) At the campfire that night he told us incredible story about this magical medicinal mushroom he called Chaga that he and his family had to pick for a certain group of people who never paid them in money but always gave them some moldy breads, or alcohol for the men and maybe a pair of nylons or some perfumes for the girls. This young family and his whole family were forced from their home daily under the threat of death to harvest this mushroom! Wow, I remember thinking that we live live in a pretty wonderful country of ours. where this sort of extortion does not happen to us here in Canada. I din't remember the story about the Chaga mushroom he was telling us about very long but I sure remembered the other parts of the hardships that he and his family had to endure in his country.

It was not until the summer of 2006 after returning back here to my home province of New Brunswick Canada, that I remembered Andre's story about the Chaga mushroom, and sought to find it if I could. At the time, no one here in North America seemed to know anything about its medicinal properties or even that it existed, so I went on the internet of course, to find out what I could about this miracle mushroom. At that time, my search produced only one website that had any information about it at all, and that one and only website was based out of Russia. It is only for these reasons that I harvest Chaga: to share the health benefits with others who need it as I do!!

It did not take long, however, before my family and friends were noticing the difference in my health, and I began  harvesting Chaga for them as well through the fall and winter of 2006 and 2007.

In 2006, we launched our first website to sell fresh Fiddleheads and Dried Gourmet Mushrooms online from here in New Brunswick.  Since the best time to harvest Chaga is off-season to the Fiddleheads and edible wild mushrooms and other wild edibles, I added the Chaga to our website as well in 2007 because of it's amazing health benefits to me.

How could I not share this?

This also prolongs our wild foods harvest season, which helps to support my family and now helps a few others that I have trained in our community through the winter months. We do not harvest Chaga through the summer months at all, for which the reasons are on the Harvesting Chaga Mushrooms page.

Since the summer of 2007 with the launch of our renamed website ( we were the first website in North America or anywhere else in the world to offer Chaga in it's purest form) there are  now literally thousands of web pages and web sites selling Chaga in various forms from all parts of North America. Yes the marketers also found my website and learned about the Chaga here on my website as well!

We only harvest and sell Chaga in its purest form. We do not add anything to our grind or powder. Nor do we make any kind of extract, and if we did it would be a single extract only. A double extract simply means; add water and make more money!

That's my personal promise to you!

Here in Canada, our alcohol content in our Vodka is no higher than 45%  so the remaining 55% water content will take care of the water soluble enzymes during the fermentation process. So there is no need to do a second extract with water at all, as it serves no purpose other than to increase the volume and weaken the first extract.

We do not clean the Melanin-rich black outer part of the mushroom off as has been done going back many generations in other parts of the world , because recent analytical studies of the mushroom show that it is this part that holds the highest concentration of the anti-tumor rich phenol's like the Melanin and betulin acids.  I do not follow other sites (we are the leaders, not the followers) who are now selling Chaga, but am glad to hear through the grapevine that this practice of leaving the outer layer intact has caught on around the world.

If you are interested in the complete analysis of the Chaga mushroom that I have, click on the link for the scientific pharmaceutical report.  This report is not copied or pasted from another website - it is real scientific data from a pharmaceutical laboratory in Japan.

I received this report 14 years ago now from the science officer at Maliseet First Nations Conservation Council and is the only report that I trust as there was no monetary gain involved for anyone.

I have found a couple of more real good articles on Chaga that I want to share with you that I thought were really good and have value. But before you venture off I would like to share with you what you may experience in your first week of drinking the Chaga beverage as I did. Making your own extract or tincture can be handy for traveling and you can not brew the tea beverage, but I personally make my own capsules for this purpose. We do prefer the tea beverage when at home and I still drink as much as 10 cups per day especially through the summer months. The Chaga iced tea is delicious.

Here's what  you could experience in your first week of drinking Chaga tea, or the powder if capsules are your preference, you should take  3-6  capsules per day: .........on your first or second day, you will feel your energy levels rising! On day 4 or 5 you may notice a not so well feeling like you have a cold or flu coming on. ( body detoxing)  On day 6 or 7 (or maybe even day 5) you might have a bathroom experience that may alarm you -but in a healthy way!  ( Chaga is a natural colon cleanse as well) In week two and from then on, all your aches and pains from any arthritis you may have, may start to fade, and have a feeling of wellness that you never felt before. These were the effects that I personally experienced during my first week of drinking the tea. Your experience may be different than mine. Your previous lifestyle will definitely have an effect on your experience as it did with mine, with this healthy beverage
